Family of James and Sarah Dunlop, of Gisborne Plains, NZ

James Dunlop married Sarah Cole 24-10-1845 and lived in Glasgow till 1849, when they came to New Zealand with their first child on the ship Lalla Rookh. They settled on the Gisborne Plains, receiving a quarterly remittance from James’s family; had 13 children altogether, and eventually 60 grandchildren!

1. Sarah Margaret, 1846-1924, married 1-11-1867 Capt. Edward Ogilvie Ross, farmed near Opotiki.

2. Jeanette Mary, 1849-1902, m. 27-3-1872 Thomas W.P. Smith, pioneered a dairyfarm at Kaitaia.

11. Emily (Amy) 1866-1947, m.1886 to John Innes, doctor in Gisborne, who suffered ill-health
    himself and committed suicide in 1896. No children.
    Amy married again in 1901, to Major Cholwell Dean Pitt, soldier and farmer.   No children.

12. Clara b.1869, m.17-9-1890 to Arnold Wethered, farmer, nr Gisborne. 1 daughter, Phyllis ‘91.

13. Colin, 1874-1926, farmer, m. 1898  Gwendoline Sergeant. No children. He died at Opotiki.
