Spiritual dream
Marie, a social worker in her forties, undertook a demanding course of study in which she often lost her confidence. She began to become aware of an inner Guide who encouraged her to keep going.
Dream report: Silver Wolf
I’m watching myself from behind, standing in a lonely desolate snow-covered place. The ground is stony with rocks and dark green fir trees at the sides. Then my Wolf appears, silver-grey, with a rolled-up scroll in his mouth, and puts it on the ground about ten paces in front of me. He looks at me intently, communicating that it is there for me to pick up when I am ready. I know it’s my Diploma, and feel affirmed that I can do it. The Wolf turns and disappears.
My Wolf has been in my mind as a guide for about six years, since I started this training. He appeared in an earlier dream, communicating ‘Trust me – sit with it – I’m taking care of you.’
Marie had had a very unhappy childhood, rebelling against the unfair authority figures in her life.
Before taking up social work, she had been a veterinary nurse, and has always had a love of dogs. It is not surprising that her unconscious Guide took the form of a wild creature living a solitary life in the wilderness. Wolves are highly intelligent animals, living beyond the control of humans. The silvery colour and purposeful gaze suggest a spiritual meaning. The scroll also suggests an ancient text, holding valuable knowledge or wisdom, worth the effort of study.
Marie took heart from her dreams, and successfully completed her Diploma.
