Dream of the Month

Battle of the Magicians

A Sci-Fi dream
Jamie, 43, is a successful computer professional, who has always enjoyed literature and games in the field of science fiction and fantasy. This dream came the night before he had to give a major presentation of his new IT programme to the senior executive team in his company. He was feeling “charged up” for the presentation, but also nervous about the potential ramifications if he failed to impress them.

Dream report:               Battle of Magicians
I'm in a big dim area like a rich library with fine wood and old leather-bound books. There's something nasty coming parading down the aisles towards me, a dark humanoid figure, robed and cowled, firing bolts of energy from its hands. In Dungeons and Dragons terms it’s a "lich", a powerful evil undead magician. Preceding it are some scary little dwarven figures glowing an unpleasant  white.
I scramble for a special leather book which I can somehow use to defend against the monster. I get the book, and use it like some kind of magical shield to deflect a series of energy bolts the creature shoots at me. The energy bolts are deflected back at it, diminishing it and eventually
collapsing it into a small ball of light containing its remnants. I'm trying to figure out what to do with the ball of light to finish the monster off, and that's where the dream finishes.

Thinking later about what to do with the ball of light, I would pick it up, take it outside and make strong magic to fire it into the sun to permanently dispose of the monster.

My actual presentation went well, and the nervous energy I'd had in the build up translated well into enthusiasm in the session.
